The department dedicated to grinding, one of the activities that Giulipas has carried out since its founding, was further enhanced in September 2015 with the purchase of a new machine that grinds flat sides using wet technology, which also makes it possible to grind square or rectangular section tubular elements.
Equipped with three belts featuring a useful working width of up to 1130 mm, this machine can be used to grind both small pieces, and medium to large size tubes up to a maximum length of 6000 mm. It is the ideal piece of equipment for grinding, polishing or de-burring pieces resulting from, for example, laser cutting of sheet metal or from shearing.
With a standard configuration work area 0.8 mm to 160 mm high, this machine allows a wide range of products to be processed. The centesimal increase offers the possibility to achieve significant accuracy and processing flatness, complying with any sharp edges. This also makes it possible to carry out processes similar to grinding with tolerances in the few hundredths.
Advantages of wet grinding
It allows the piece to be machined without overheating it, preserving its molecular structure, thus avoiding any deformation. This is particularly useful, for example, when processing especially thin sheet metal, where a strong temperature increase might cause the sheet metal to warp and thus lose it flatness.
In addition, an excessive temperature increase would also have a negative impact on the abrasive properties of the belt. Wet technology can prevent this from happening, maintaining over time excellent belt cutting uniformity and, at the same time, even consumption. This means consistency of the mark left on the machined piece, thus assuring exceptional finishing quality.
The materials that may be processed include some of the most common metals, such as stainless steel, iron, aluminium and copper.
This new machine is in addition to pre-existing equipment for grinding round tubes. In this case, dry technology is used, but the experience of Giulipas’ personnel makes it possible to achieve considerable quality standards.
